Removing old additions that were poorly integrated into the original structure, rather than remodeling them, can create more outdoor space and improve the efficiency of interior spaces.
We removed a cramped mid-century add-on that was preventing sufficient light and fresh air from reaching the interior. In the freed space we built a three-story veranda across the back of the house to encourage indoor-outdoor living and social interaction among the neighbors.
