A heat chimney is a vertical airway through a building that allows hot air to flow upward and out. It is a passive cooling technique developed centuries ago in the Middle East.
This sleeping loft is on the third and top-most level of the house. Louvered vents allow air to flow into it from the double-height interior space below. During the day, air escapes through open windows near the peak of the ceiling, creating a draft that pulls cooler air through the house.
