Oakland 2

We integrated these two studios by aligning the windows of the lower unit with the ones above and adding a spiral stairway.

Michael Mullin San Francisco Architect - Renovation in Oakland

In this converted old Oakland school building we combined two former classrooms into one large two-story dwelling unit.  Judicious selection and location of a spiral stair allowed us to define distinct uses within an open plan, conserve space, and make an elegant visual statement.

The architecture of this Aesthetic Movement building already blended Victorian and Craftsman elements.  We brought to it an edited, timeless Modern sensibility appropriate to our clients, one of whom has an adjacent sculpture studio.

“We're very happy with what we've got.  It was well worth the time and money spent.”  - DM
