It is nearly universal among  Bay Area homes built in the first half of the 20th century that they are disconnected from their sites.  Quite often our first act when we re-conceive a project is to subtract years of accumulated additions that blocked the house from the land around it, often these were made at the expense of light, air and architectural integrity.  Still, it sometimes requires creating a new layer of space that integrates indoor and outdoor spaces in an addition.  Having worked in city planning, community planning processes, and even permit expediting, we have extraordinary expertise in understanding zoning, designing appropriate solutions, and navigating the consensus-building and approval processes.
