It is nearly universal among Bay Area homes built in the first half of the 20th century that they are disconnected from their sites. Quite often our first act when we re-conceive a project is to subtract years of accumulated additions that blocked the house from the land around it, often these were made at the expense of light, air and architectural integrity.
