We raised the house two feet to create a first-floor unit with nine-foot ceilings
and rebuilt the back to include a third-floor master bedroom suite with a roof terrace.
In remodeling this house, the owners wanted to add a secondary unit so an extended family could live under one roof as needs evolve. The new ground-floor unit can be incorporated into the unit above or kept independent as required.
We rehabilitated the whole house, saving select details to retain its original character. The plan is functional and elegant, beautifully blending old with new. The new third-floor master bedroom suite and its terrace offer sweeping views of Twin Peaks and Noe Valley.
We saved or rebuilt Victorian architectural elements on the main level and we added timeless vernacular elements on the ground and top levels.
