Natural wood brings warmth to a modern facade

Michael Mullin San Francisco Architect - Renovation in Dolores Heights, San Francisco

This San Francisco couple wanted to renovate their house to include a new kitchen opening up to the garden and a new master suite.  By building the new kitchen with a higher ceiling, we created direct sight lines from the central dining room out through tall kitchen windows to the garden.  The center of the remodeled house feels connected to the landscape.

The library/media room facing the garden makes a natural focus for leisure time and invites indoor-outdoor living.

The mid-century Modern house became both more natural, with exposed wood finishes, and more noble, with strong vertical proportions and large-scale windows. The cement panels are low-maintenance, but also give the architecture references to curtain-wall and stone contemporaries.

“I liked his professional demeanor and felt assured of his understanding of the workings of the city's Planning Department and bureaucracy. I would wholeheartedly recommend Michael.   He has an excellent sense of design, is open to feedback and suggestions yet upholds his vision fervently when necessary.”  - BC
